WALPOLE, N.H. 鈥� A 23-year-old hiker was rescued from Mt. Kilburn in New Hampshire earlier this week after passing out due to a medical emergency, falling from the mountain and waking up to find herself impaled on a stick, according to authorities.
Candace Hadwen, a resident of Springfield, Vermont, was trekking Mt. Kilburn in Walpole, New Hampshire around 6:30 p.m. Thursday when she suffered the medical emergency and lost consciousness. When the hiker awoke, she determined she had fallen and impaled herself on a stick, which was causing heavy bleeding, according to a from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
Conservation officers, police, firefighters and medical first responders responded to the call about the hiker in distress who needed to be rescued. Hadwen was off trail at the time, according to the statement.
鈥淔ire personnel were immediate in their response, finding the victim and administering life saving measures to stop the bleeding,鈥� the statement said.
Hadwen was taken from the mountain to a helicopter, which flew her to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire for treatment of her injuries, according to the statement.
