Medics, athletic trainer save Texas teen athlete

The trainer recognized the quarterback鈥檚 concussion and medics resuscitated him en route to the hospital

SPRING HILL, Texas 鈥 A Spring Hill senior football player is recovering in a Dallas-area hospital tonight after taking a hard hit Friday night and suffering a concussion on the field.

Spring Hill administrators say, while there鈥檚 no current law requiring schools to keep a certified athletic trainer on staff, the fact that they had one likely saved this athlete鈥檚 life.

Athletic Director Mark Sartain described the tackle. 鈥淢iddle of the third quarter, [quarterback Garrett Plumlee] took a couple shots that required he leave the field.鈥 Sartain says that鈥檚 when Athletic Trainer Michael Rich stepped in.
