COLUMBUS, Ohio 鈥� The 鈥� board of directors drafted a resolution last week that may lead to an update in initial certification requirements for all levels of certification for EMS providers.
If the resolution is approved following a public comment period, the National Registry executive director would update the initial certification requirements for all levels of certification (EMR, EMT, AEMT, and paramedic) to include successful completion of an EMS education program that meets or exceeds the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards and:
- has an CAAHEP-accreditation, or
- has been issued a CoAEMSP 鈥淟etter of Review,鈥� or
- has received state EMS office approval.
The change would expand eligibility requirements, allowing states to choose their own accreditation requirement.
