NEW YORK 鈥 The FDNY held a ceremony for the renaming of Hilda Vannata Way, at the intersection of 77th Place and Juniper Valley Road in Queens, honoring an EMT for her legacy of kindness and dedication to assisting others.

On April 12, coinciding with what would have been Vannata鈥檚 68th birthday, FDNY chiefs, EMTs, paramedics and members of the Fire Inspectors Union 2507, along with friends and family, gathered for the ceremony, reported.

For 27 years, Vannata served as an EMT at FDNY Battalion Station House 14, located at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx. She responded to the terrorist attack on Sep. 11, 2001.

鈥淪he spent countless hours at the site as part of the rescue and recovery operation,鈥 FDNY Chief of Department Jack Hodges said. 鈥淪he went there because New Yorkers needed her help. She was there to help the city begin to heal.鈥

Like many who were exposed to the conditions at Ground Zero, Vannata suffered health-related complications. Vannata died on Sep. 20, 2023, due to 9/11-related pancreatic cancer.
