CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. 鈥� The ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the Cullman Emergency Medical Services鈥� new location on U.S. Highway 31 across from the Cullman County Courthouse is slated for Thursday afternoon.
The organization鈥檚 new headquarters, however, is more of a homecoming than turning of the leaf.
鈥淎fter considering multiple other sites and facilities, nothing seemed to compare to the former location after renovations,鈥� Cullman Regional Medical Center Board Building and Grounds Chairman Roger Humphrey said.
The ceremony will take place from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Thursday, and it will commemorate the newly restored CEMS building, which was ravaged by the April 27, 2011, tornado.
The new-and-improved base of operations for the CEMS includes a large bay, improved office space in a renovated basement area and several other amenities.
Moreover, the location is prime real estate for visibility and response time.
鈥淭he primary factor being the location鈥檚 impact on response times for 911 calls,鈥� Humphrey said. 鈥淏y keeping the former location, CEMS ambulances will be able to keep response times consistently below the national average in both the city and county.鈥�
Prior to relocating to its new headquarters, the CEMS has operated out of a variety of locations, including the old emergency room space at the Woodland Hospital building.
鈥淭he CRMC Board Buildings and Grounds Committee has spent countless hours working on this project as a top priority over the past 18 months,鈥� CRMC Board Chairman Todd McLeroy said. 鈥淭he time and effort they put into making sure that this was the most suitable location for our ambulance service should definitely be applauded.鈥�
