EMS Poem: To my medic, from your EMT

“When the ER keeps us from another call, you may frolic while I hug the wall. I am there for you.”

By Clay Gilman, EMT-B

I will have the rig stocked before you arrive,

So we can start keeping our patients alive.

I am there for you.

I will handle the gurney so you can start to assess,

I will carry all the gear and clean up all the mess.

I am there for you.

I will make the firefighter respect all your wishes,

Because we’ll be with the patient while they’re back doing dishes.

I am there for you.

And I don’t care where we are,

I will always have the mileage for your PCR.

I am there for you.

And when you need to rest, because of all you do,

Although, I like to chat, I’ll shut up during that time too.

I am there for you.

And when we’re on scene, I will always have your back,

At that unsafe accident or to fend off an attack.

I am there for you.

When the ER keeps us from another call,

You may frolic while I hug the wall.

I am there for you.

And if a call doesn’t go like it should,

I know for a fact you did all you could.

I am there for you.

Whether helping the elderly or just a young kid,

I will always remember what you did.

I am there for you.

If you ever need a partner who just ain’t the same,

Just check the schedule for my name.

I am there for you.

So at end of shift when we close the rig’s door,

Know that I’m always down for some more.

I am there for you.

I will restock the rig for the oncoming crew,

And be honored and proud that I worked with you.

I am there for you.
