Ind. first responders receive safety grants for equipment, education

16 agencies received funding that will be used for lithium-ion battery response training, carbon monoxide training, and CPR and AED training for residents and first responders

MERRILLVILLE, INd. 鈥 NIPSCO has announced 16 organizations as recipients of the 2024 Public Safety Education and Training Action Grant.

Locally, the LaGrange firefighters will receive a grant to supply carbon monoxide detectors for medic bags.

Over the past seven years, NIPSCO鈥檚 Public Safety Education and Training Action Grant has funded a total of 110 projects geared toward community and youth public safety education projects, as well as training for first responders, police and fire departments. Some of these include lithium-ion battery response training, carbon monoxide training and cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator training for residents and first responders.


Why smaller EMS agencies need grant funding, and four programs to look into

The 2024 program recipients received grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 each.
