FORT COLLINS, Colo. 鈥 A child having a hard time with math homework called 911 for help.

reported that dispatcher Chris Clow was caught off guard when he answered the 10-year-old鈥檚 call about division.

鈥淗i, this isn鈥檛 an emergency, but I鈥檓 10 years old and I鈥檓 working on my math homework right now and I can鈥檛 figure out what 71 divided by 3,052 is,鈥 the child said.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 generally have a calculator ready to go,鈥 Clow responded as he laughed.

Although not the normal type of emergency, Clow still helped the child figure out the problem.

鈥淎t first he was confused because he had it backward,鈥 Clow later said.

Clow grabbed his calculator and told the child that the answer was 鈥42.98, which you would round up to 43.鈥

鈥淥h, okay. Thanks. Thank you,鈥 the child responded.

Clow said that while 911 is strictly for emergencies, he鈥檚 happy he could help the child.

鈥淚t鈥檚 important to give them that service whenever we can,鈥 he said.

Fort Collins police reminded the public that, despite the cuteness of the incident, 911 is only to be used in real emergencies.
