NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. 鈥 Two people 鈥渕iraculously鈥 escaped the wreckage of an SUV sheared in half during a horrific solo crash, California firefighters reported.
Firefighters at about 1 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, found the two occupants of the SUV sitting on the curb, Newport Beach firefighters said in a news release.
鈥淢iraculously both occupants of the vehicle self-extricated prior to the arrival of emergency responders,鈥 firefighters said.
The SUV hit two light poles and crashed into a tree, shearing off the engine compartment, firefighters said. Emergency crews doused an engine fire.
The rest of the wreckage was found 20 feet down the road, firefighters said. A tire was found in a nearby property.
The two occupants were taken to a hospital in stable condition, firefighters said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Firefighters warned drivers to be extra careful during the holiday season.
鈥淧lease slow down, stay focused, and drive responsibly,鈥 firefighters said.
