PORTLAND, Ore. 鈥� Crews with Portland Fire & Rescue responded to 28 people trapped upside down on the AtmosFEAR ride at Oaks Amusement Park on Saturday, .
Though members were prepared to perform a high-angle rescue, they were able to work with engineers at the park to manually lower the ride shortly after arriving on scene.
One person with a pre-existing condition was transported to a local hospital out of precaution.
have preplanned this scenario and were enroute to the site ready to deploy to put our plan into action. It may have taken a few minutes longer to return everyone to the ground, but we are ready for this and many other unique emergencies. We leave nothing to chance as we preplan and train on what 鈥渃ould鈥� happen before it actually happens,鈥� the department wrote in a Facebook post about the incident.
The ride is closed until further notice, park officials said in a statement that also thanked crews for their work.
鈥淲e wish to express our deepest appreciation to the first responders and our staff for taking prompt action, leading to a positive outcome today, and to the rest of the park guests who swiftly followed directions to vacate the park to make way for the emergency responders to attend to the situation,鈥� the statement read.
