CARROLLTOWN, Pa. 鈥 Cambria County Box 11, an organization that provides comfort to first responders during emergency incidents, is expanding its presence into the county鈥檚 northern region, thanks in part to Wood Chevrolet.
Jeff Wood, the dealership鈥檚 owner, made a monetary contribution to the organization during a ceremony on Tuesday. He has also opened up his business, located at 187 S. Main St., Carrolltown, as a drop-off point for anybody who wants to donate items, such as foods and drinks.
鈥淭he firefighters need help, the first responders, everyone,鈥 Wood said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 just a nice unit.
鈥淚t looked like there was a need in Cambria County .鈥
Cambria County Box 11 Chief Jim McCann said Wood鈥檚 donation will 鈥渞eally keep us stocked, keep us ready, prepared.鈥
Box 11 started offering shelter, food and drinks to first responders during calls late last year. So far, the group has assisted at approximately 30 scenes, including house fires, hazardous material incidents, water rescue searches and public service activities.
The project began with East Hills EMS, along with fire departments in Nanty Glo and Conemaugh. It has grow to now include Hope Fire Company of Northern Cambria.
