TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured during the final play of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ game against the Atlanta Falcons,
The trooper, who was stationed near the end zone at Raymond James Stadium, was struck by Buccaneers receiver Rakim Jarrett as he landed out of bounds while attempting to catch a Hail Mary pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield, according to the report.
The play, which took place with the Buccaneers trailing 31-26, ended with Jarrett colliding with the trooper, who had his back turned while monitoring the crowd. The impact resulted in the trooper suffering a broken ankle, according to the report.
Florida Highway Patrol issued a statement thanking the Falcons player who immediately assisted the injured trooper.
