SPRINGFIELD, Ill. 鈥 Two Springfield EMTs accused of first-degree murder returned to a Sangamon County courtroom on Nov.27 for pre-trial hearings.
Peggy Finley and Peter Cadigan were charged after an autopsy report found a patient, Earl Moore Jr., died in their care from 鈥渃ompressional and positional asphyxia鈥 due to being prone, facedown and restrained to a stretcher by tightened straps during a鈥December call.鈥
Finley鈥檚 lawyer, Scott Hanken, had requested a refund of Finley鈥檚 bond based on the Pre-Trial Fairness Act, reported.
Finley was released in June, after posting a $60,000 bond. After she had been released and after the act went into effect, the court ordered that her release is now subject to the SAFE-T Act and her bond will be refunded.
Monday鈥檚 hearing was the first time that both EMTs appeared on pre-trial release conditions. Both attorneys asked for more time to go through discovery.
