Computer outage places N.Y. hospital on reroute for several hours

SYRACUSE, N.Y. 鈥 St. Joseph鈥檚 Hospital in Syracuse was closed to ambulances Friday after a computer system outage.

Around 10 a.m. a broadcast was put out by Onondaga County 911 center dispatchers that the hospital was closed to all ambulances with the exception of 鈥淢I鈥 ambulances. MI indicates a heart attack or similar problem.

A dispatcher for the Onondaga County 911 Center confirmed at 3:41 p.m. that ambulances were still being diverted from the hospital due to an 鈥渋nternal disaster.鈥

A worker who answered the phone for the St. Joseph鈥檚 Emergency Room around 3 p.m. stated that the hospital was still closed to ambulances and staff were working off paper medical records.

Kelly Quinn, a spokesperson for the hospital, said that the hospital had experienced some outages but that systems had been restored as of 3:49 p.m.

As of 4 p.m., ambulances were able to return to St. Joseph鈥檚, Quinn said.
