Father-daughter team saves cardiac arrest victim at D.C. yoga class

A Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad father and daughter worked together to successfully resuscitate the patient before D.C. Fire and EMS arrived on scene

WASHINGTON 鈥 A routine yoga class turned into a life-saving experience for a father-daughter duo when a participant collapsed in cardiac arrest.

Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad Firefighter-Paramedic Daniel Edwards, and his daughter, Ella Edwards, a former junior member and EMT, were attending a hot yoga session on Dec. 10 in the Tenleytown neighborhood when a person in the class collapsed, the department stated in a Facebook post.

As the instructor called 911, Daniel and Ella quickly assessed the situation, began chest compressions and called for an AED, the department said. After delivering a shock with the defibrillator, they successfully resuscitated the patient before D.C. Fire and EMS arrived on the scene.

The Edwards family credited their training at Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad for enabling them to act swiftly and effectively.

鈥淲e鈥檙e grateful for the opportunity to put our emergency medical skills into practice and help someone in need,鈥 they said.
