CHEHALIS, Wash. 鈥 The Chehalis Fire Department has launched a new advanced life support (ALS) paramedic program, Fire Chief Adam Fulbright announced Wednesday.

The program, which offers pre-hospital medical care by certified paramedics, has been fully operational since Tuesday, July 16.

鈥淭his significant enhancement in service capabilities ensures that all patients experiencing medical emergencies receive rapid and highly skilled medical interventions before reaching the hospital,鈥 Fulbright said in a news release.

Like many fire departments in Lewis County, the Chehalis Fire Department contracts with the private ambulance company American Medical Response (AMR) for emergency medical and ambulance services.

鈥淥ur new ALS program represents a major step forward in our commitment to providing exceptional emergency services,鈥 Fulbright said. 鈥淲ith the addition of highly trained paramedics to our team, we can deliver advanced medical care directly at the scene, especially when our contracted transport service is unavailable or experiencing delayed response, thus improving patient outcomes and lives.鈥
