MECHANICSBURG, Pa. 鈥 The Executive Committee of the Interstate Commission for EMS Personnel Practice has unveiled its official seal.

The emblem, representing unity, progress and commitment, signifies a new era in the field of Emergency Medical Services, the EMS Compact

The seal features a stylized Star of Life within a blue hexagon, symbolizing EMS鈥檚 balance, unity and reliability. This star, the EMS emblem since 1970, embodies professional dedication and represents a unified national identity. An adjacent rightward arrow signifies ongoing industry progress, the EMS Compact said.

The seal also includes a red circle from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security鈥檚 seal, acknowledging DHS鈥檚 role in funding the EMS Compact鈥檚 creation. This circle, with 24 openings for the member states, signifies the Compact鈥檚 ability 鈥渢o overcome bureaucratic 鈥榬ed tape鈥 and challenges,鈥 according to the news release.

The emblem鈥檚 foundation features ten Stars of Life, each representing one of the 10 founding states of the EMS Compact.

鈥淲e are honored to introduce this seal, which encapsulates the essence of our mission and the collective spirit of the EMS community,鈥 Donnie Woodyard, the executive director of the Interstate Commission for EMS Personnel Practice, said in a statement. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a symbol of our unwavering commitment to uphold the highest standards of care and to foster a united EMS front across state lines. The inclusion of elements from the DHS seal is a powerful reminder of our roots and the continuous support that has propelled the EMS Compact forward.鈥
