LINCOLN, N.Y. — One woman has been killed and a man seriously injured when a house exploded Wednesday night in the town of Lincoln in Madison County.

The explosion was at 4621 Burleson Road, Samantha Field, a spokesperson for the county confirmed. The blast was reported at 6:40 p.m., she said.

Field said a woman was killed and a man was airlifted to a hospital. They both lived at the house. No one else was in the home, she said.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Lincoln firefighters arrived to find debris from the home and the smell of propane in the air, Field said.

They worked to free the two people from the debris, she said. The woman was declared dead at the scene, she said.

At least 10 emergency departments responded to the scene.

Burleson Road will remain closed overnight, Field said.

People as far as 10 miles away reported online hearing the explosion.

The house explosion is about six miles south of where a tornado hit Canastota last Tuesday.

In Madison County property records, the house is described as a 4-bedroom colonial built in 1973.
